Behold the throw-away table my sister picked up off the street! At first I said, "nah, what the heck am I going to make with this clunky thing??" But she brought it over anyway.
I'm really into the beachy subway art theme so I thought why not try it on this table?
It's not going to cost anything but my time.
Here ya go! Kinda glad I gave it a shot!
Here is the Art piece I had done first.

A BED PARTNER kristins night stand

Kristin is enjoying a new space, and enjoying the process of decorating it.
Shes also pretty handy because she re assembled this bed frame once she got it home.
When she picked it up it wouldnt fit in the car without being completely taken apart.
We were lucky because I had built this one so every part could be adjusted and there fore
could also be broken down into very manageable parts.
She also picked up a single bedside table from me but wanted a second one.
They didnt have to match but they had to be cohesive.
This handsome oak beauty was found.
Its the same style as the first, but a few things had to be done to it.
All the original hardware was removed and the holes filled.
I had to find another set of handles to complement the first ones and get them painted.
Both tables were painted in ASCP Old White and waxed.
They make great bed partners dont you think?

Changes For A New Year

Hello!  Did you survive Christmas?  We had a sick little boy with influenza so our holiday was very low key.  He still isnt completely 100% and his Christmas gifts still lay in a pile as he hasnt had the energy to play yet.  It makes my heart hurt to see my kids sick but especially during the holiday.
With a New Year right around the corner, I thought it was time to make some blog changes so please be patient with me as I try to upgrade our look a little.  Im not technical and these things take me forever.
But I wanted to make the design a little more us, simple.  :)
New Years Resolutions......
Mine is to try not to stress and worry so much.  Easier said than done, right?
Oh, and Im going to TRY to eliminate sugar from my diet.  Im pretty sure I will break that one on January 2.  :) Any tips?
And to just have more fun and celebrate life.
My hubbys birthday is tomorrow, so Im planning a party.  :) I love making him feel special.
What about you?  What are your New Years resolutions?  Id love to hear them!
Have a great day and a wonderful New Year~  Diana

A HUSBAND AN ANTIQUE AND A POST CARD aqua chest of drawers

Just a quick peek for you.
George bought a little antique dresser last week and very
excitedly arrived home with it in his van anxious to show me.
Looking at it in the back of the van, I have to admit
I was perplexed because it looked nice as is.
I had assumed it was for me to work on.
He knows my motto
"if its not broke dont fix it"
It had rich color in the wood, beautiful hardware
but once I get closer I realized how short it was,
at about 27". We have been looking for a special
piece for ourselves to fit along a low window.
Now this started to make sense, however it also has
to be very shallow which this was not at 20" deep.
NOT GONNA WORK FOR US
i love you george
I have been toying with the idea of turquoise
and now I have to come up with a plan to refurbish
the thing.  Of course the first thing was
to put some casters back on it to give it a bit more
stature. Then George shows me some repairs that it
needed. The insides of the cabinet and drawers
definitely would benefit from attention. The top
surface varnish was bubbled all over.
Okay this is sounding better, I like to be needed.
But I didnt have a clear vision and it was sitting in the middle of my work space and something
had to happen. The top couldnt be painted without being stripped.
If I have to strip it I want to stain it dark walnut. Thats a start! That will go with turquoise.
So I removed the top to take outside to do the dirty work.
When removing it I found something, half a post card stuck
between the frame and the top.
Addresser was:
Mr David Brown
1256 Davie St.
Vancouver BC
It reads "arrived at _____ johston. He is a big boy,
was asking for you. The picture on this card is the
hotel I stayed at in NY"
signed: "Father"
 See the post mark?
 1919
Okay now back to the dresser
 Trial and Error ....
I finally ended with something I adore ...
Let me know what you think ....

SHES A PRETTY SECRETARY pink secretary desk

Shes a looker alright!
The hardware is ANTIQUE with protectors on the inside of the drawers.
A metal cap fits over the post and nut to protect the drawer contents.
But I hope you didnt think I found her this way, you know me better then that.
I built the upper portion for this simple maple secretary using two discarded cabinet doors,
and some lumber from a kitchen table I recent stole the legs from.
It is secured with metal rods on the back side and can be unscrewed to separate.
She has a larger then average pull down at 16" deep,
thats why I chose this piece to work with.
The pink is a blend of pure white and emperors silk ASCP and waxed with minwax natural.
Everything displays great against the soft pink,
and its a fun color to have peeking through the glass doors.
