Easter Table Ideas

I love Easter.  Its my favorite holiday and I always start planning for it early.  I have so many cherished Easter memories with my hubby and kids.  Hard to believe how time flies.  This year I wanted to create something fun and special to celebrate Easter and I am thrilled to be able to share it with you.  Yes, I know it isnt even Valentines Day yet but Easter is in March this year, so it will be here before you know it.  :)
I created these egg shaped mini bread board sets just for Easter and I am so proud of them.  They are made from a special type of walnut that my hubby gets that I just love because of the beautiful shade of color through it......kinda like Easter eggs.  :)
For our table, I always like to use white dishes because thats my favorite but I also wanted to add a splash of Easter color so I picked up these lovely blue pasta bowls at Crate and Barrel.  They were a splurge for me but I couldnt resist and we eat a lot of pasta so hey, why not, right?
I also wanted something to put Easter treats in for my kids and thought that these burlap sacks were just the cutest thing ever.  I picked them up on Etsy here.
For some reason, Im drawn to anything egg shaped, especially involving the kitchen, so making these boards was seriously so much fun.  They will be available in my Etsy shop for just the Easter holiday.  And they will only be available in this walnut.
My hubby found this old table/desk and I absolutely love it.  When he found it, the drawer was full of all kinds of vintage brochures and letters, which were lots of fun to look at.  I had so much fun using it for this photo shoot.  If it was bigger and had enough space for 6 people, I would totally use it for our dining table.
So if youd like to purchase a set of these cute little boards for Easter, click here.   Since this is a special seasonal item, quantities are limited.
And thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to visit and leave a sweet comment here on the blog.  I may not be able to respond to each of you, but know that I read every single comment and appreciate each one so much.   And a huge thank you to all my shop customers.  YOU make it possible for me to do what I love.....create.  :)
Easter Blessings to each of you!!

Behold the throw-away table my sister picked up off the street! At first I said, "nah, what the heck am I going to make with this clunky thing??" But she brought it over anyway.
I'm really into the beachy subway art theme so I thought why not try it on this table?
It's not going to cost anything but my time.
Here ya go! Kinda glad I gave it a shot!
Here is the Art piece I had done first.

TOGETHER WE CAN HANDLE IT cane console table

It`s hard getting back into work when you have been away from it for a long period.
Both George and I are trying to recall this feeling from past years but it seems different
this time around. Not only have we had several negatives come up since our return home
but we also spent our entire Easter weekend sick in bed.
Seriously not a single chocolate bunny or egg has been seen or enjoyed around here.
Even being sick has not kept me completely down as I`ve been able
to bring this newly completed console table to you.
Fortunately I didn`t have to build anything but I can tell you,
painting and waxing open designed furniture takes a great deal of time, product,
attention to detail, and great patience.
It has 2 removable glass panels in the top surface,
and 2 perfect caned panels on the bottom.
This is a vintage solid wood piece of furniture.

My first drop leaf table restoration!

Rabu, 13 Juli 2016

I picked up this drop leaf on a visit to a local estate sale. I had been wanting to do one for awhile and the price was right.  this is a Duncan Phyfe -Style....notice I said Style.....I did a little research and got some info from an antiques expert. Antique is usually something of at least 100 years old.
And Duncan Phyfe was a furniture maker in the early 1800s. If you actually have a Duncan Phyfe anything, its probably  180+years old! So, anything made later than that in his style, is a knock-off.
I was told that the wood on the tables are of a mahogany veneer. The legs on the larger table are made from "red gum" wood and then stained to look like mahogany.
Here are the two items I got. The little guy was refurbed with the nautical compass.
This wood refinishing was pretty straightforward.  After sanding, I applied Varthane dark walnut gel.
The body got a coat of home made chalk paint using DE "lambswool".
And heres what I ended up with....
Hub used the buffer and "mothers" to get the brassy-ness on her feet back to original.

So there ya have it! A little history lesson the Duncan Phyfes !

So I found these great solid maple pieces on CL. Two large chests/dressers and this
cute little side table.  I felt sort of sheepish because as the lady was helping me load them
into my truck she said, "I'm so glad these are going to someone who appreciates their beauty and won't
paint them." !!! ouch.....

SIMPLY FOLD IT UP black folding pine table

Jumat, 01 Juli 2016

This table top has the neat ability to fold vertically.
The center of the base pivots to hold the top up or to let it fold down.
This would be great for a small space such as an apartment or loft space,
and when it is folded it is easy for one person to lift and move.
I was also thinking it may help prevent that re occurring issue of the kitchen table being
the catch all place for everything in the house but I know not many of us have that problem,
RIGHT?
Here is the table before,
and here is the nasty, beaten up top, with peeling clear coat and deep grooves
to catch all sorts of food stuff in.
And yes there was plenty I chiseled out.
For this guy I actually painted the entire table black but only kept it solid on the base.
See above all the blackened scars in the surface.
I achieved this by hand sanding the black paint down exposing all the filled in ruts
and smoothing out the soft pine.
I then filled the grooves to prevent dirt build up in them before
rubbing 3 coats of wax into the wood.
It really is so gorgeous now and super smooth.

ROBINS EGG BLUE vintage side table

Jumat, 24 Juni 2016

I spent a nice quite afternoon on my deck
tinkering away at this little table.
The top was loose and had to be glued and nailed back in place.
Then stripped, sanded, and primed in white.
I did not remove all the original paint, I wanted high and low spots
to play with the distressing process.
The color I used was Robins Egg Blue, just a small tube of craft paint.
The inside of the drawer was primed then painted in a darker turquoise.
Then I had fun sanding all the imperfections, to make them perfect!
I really do like distressing paint. I choose to hand sand
rather then use an electric sanded. It offers more control.
Finally finished it off with a single bright white flower knob.
This side table is listed on the AVAILABLE page.
