NO MORE RIPPED PANTIES cutting hardware posts tutorial

How many of us love our pretty glass knobs? Put up your hand!
How many of us hate the metal post that sticking out the back? Put up your hand!
We like to put pretty knobs on pretty furniture,
and we like to put our pretty things into the
drawers and cupboards of our pretty furniture.
Sometimes our pretty things get caught on these
not so pretty protruding posts and cause damage to our pretty things.
This post is dedicated to saving all your pretty things!
One of the last things I do after installing glass knobs on furniture
is to cut the posts off and I thought you may like to learn how I do it.
There are 3 tools I use for this job.
A pair of pliers
to tighten the nut on the post.
A set of mini bolt cutters
to easily cut off the post.
A metal rasp or file
to smooth the edges of the metal.
You have now protected all your pretty things.
You should be able to find a version of these 3 tools at your local home improvement store.
AND
tomorrow Ill have this project to share with you ...

Beautiful Vintage Coffee Grinder and More

Happy Friday!  I dont know about you but Im so ready for the weekend.
Today I wanted to blog about a few cool pieces my hubby
picked up at an auction last weekend.
The first is this amazing 100 year old Hobart industrial coffee grinder.
This thing weighs around 90 pounds!  And the best thing is that it works perfectly.
I had asked my hubby to keep an eye out for a cool vintage coffee grinder for our shop because we are wanting to have coffee available to our customers and I thought it would be really fun to freshly grind the beans in a vintage mill.
Then he came home with this beauty and Im not sure Im going to be able to give it up.  :)
I love the lines.....
Another piece he brought home is this steamer trunk.
Weve always wanted one and he loved this one.  It needs a few minor repairs
but I cant wait to find a special place for it.
And he also found these vintage wool Navy blankets.  They are so soft, believe it or not.  Im not usually a fan of wool but I love these.
I also wanted to share with you a new member of our family.
Im the first to admit, Im not a cat person, never have been.  But a couple of weeks ago, when I went to open the blinds in the kitchen one morning,
this was what I saw on the table outside.
He seemed to be a stray and without a family and had made himself quite at home in my little toolbox.  He was so sweet and we all immediately fell in love with him.  I dont know much about cats but he is so lovable and really loves attention.
He crawls up in our laps whenever we sit down.
And whenever Im outside working on a project, I look down
and this is what I see every time....
Those sweet green eyes looking up at me.
He lays at my feet no matter what Im doing.
He has stolen our hearts, already.
And he loves to play for the camera.
Silly cat....  :)
Weve never had pets (except an outdoor rabbit)
because our kids always had allergies when they were younger.
Now that theyve grown out of them, weve decided to adopt this little guy
and they are so happy.
How can you not fall in love with that face?
Have a great weekend!

MORE THAN JUST A PEDICURE lions foot chest

The veneer on one side and top had to be completely removed due to water damage.
We have all come across those bubbling and wavy surfaces and sometimes it can be fixed.
But not this time.
I stripped and sanded and filled and sanded some more,
then added several coats of paint and wax to get this crisp clean white surface.
The right side veneer was saved and I restained the wood on the left.
She has her original key locks still in place and I out fitted her with a set of reproduction handles.
She is painted in ASCP Old White and clear wax,
and is the perfect height for a grand bedside table.

You can find a side by side before and after pic here.

More drip pots

I love making these drip pots. I start with plain old terra cotta pots, prime them (the terra
cotta is very porous and soaks up a lot of paint) and then paint. You can use
chalk paint, spray paint, latex or even milk paint.  I prefer the chalk paint and then latex.
If you look at he "Herbs" pot below, that is a mish-mash of paint. The yellow is latex,
the gray is CeCe's Vermont Slate and the white is also CeCe's. I like the chalk because
you can smooth it out and distress it. Latex is pretty one dimensional.
The red pot with the white dripsv and the black and pink is all latex.

Custom frames more pictures

The fantastic miter sled.
The 10 sycamore inner frames and 10 cherry outer frames, all glued up. They look small, but the inner frame is for an 11x14 picture.
One frame each, upside down. This picture shows how the inner frame is just a little larger than the space it will fit into. It will be trimmed for an exact fit.
One frame each, right side up and mocked up. The upper right corner shows that the inner frame is still a little too big.

MORE FURNITURE 4 SIS regency dining table

There was nothing really nasty about the regnecy table we found a few weeks back,
so no before photo was taken.

I did have to glue and clamp some parts of the base that had loosened over time,
and replace some of the nails holding the decorative metal claw feet in place.
The table top was almost void of the original finish so hand sanding just took time.
I restained the top and both pedestals with my new favorite stain, Varathanes KONA.
This color called KONA is so rich and dark looking I cant get enough of it.
Several coats of wipe on poly were applied before a final waxing to soften the feel.
AND FINALLY ....
I thought I would share a pic of some crazy little worker bees I had visit me yesterday.
The workshop we had here yesterday was soooo much fun and the diversity of ladies made
conversation amazing.
I know everyone wants to see what they worked on and hear them dish all about me
but I have to get some things finished and sort out pics first.
SO STAY TUNED ...
