Behold the throw-away table my sister picked up off the street! At first I said, "nah, what the heck am I going to make with this clunky thing??" But she brought it over anyway. 
I'm really into the beachy subway art theme so I thought why not try it on this table?
It's not going to cost anything but my time. 
Here ya go! Kinda glad I gave it a shot!

Old hutch gets a new life! Complete before during and after shots

Ok. Here it is. Got so excited to start, almost forgot the before shots! One of the glass doors had a crack in the glass, so I decided I would just leave them off altogether.  This was a CL find for $40.00. Probably was 20 too much! 
Heres the AFTER.  I didnt get it to go here, but youll read about that later!
             I make my own chalk paint using Plaster of Paris. However, I did get a quart of ASCP in Provence just so I could see the difference. This black is a mixture of Martha Stewart "francesca" and some other black paint I had laying around! I used half and half of each and about 1 cup of the plaster of paris.  I use two coats on everything. BTW, my chalk paint and the ASCP finish exactly the same. See for yourself. AS goes on a little smoother, but the end result is the same. IMHO. 
 Even though you dont have to sand, I still do. Dont know why. Old habits from wood finishing.  I just feel like starting with a nice clean smooth surface.  I removed the back thinking I was going to paint it, but after pulling it out (or rather after hubby ripping it off!) the veneer paneling began peeling. Covering it with fabric seemed easier than fixing it.
 I applied ASCP in Provence to the inside of the hutch and painted it in the grooves of the door before giving it its second coat of black.  This pic above shows the detail work to the crown molding.  I applied the blue sparingly with a very dry brush and made sure to work it in well.
Here are the doors after being painted. The left one has been distressed and sanded but I havent added the Provence color yet. 
Here is one of the doors all finished and waxed. I was so jazzed when I saw those colors come to life! 
I did splurge on the AS clear wax and her application brush. The wax works great and you get a good workout applying it! Hate that part! 
I spray painted the original scrolls and hinges ORB and picked up these new knobs at Hobby Lobby. All knobs were 50% off!  I went nuts and bought out half the bins! One never knows when one might need knobs!
 Now for the sick part. After getting this all done, I moved it inside by my back door, mudroom-like area, only to find out it was too big! WTH?? AAARRRRRGGGHHHH.  So much for measuring! I really wanted to keep this! 
I also found this fabric on sale at Hobby Lobby. It was applied to the back using some spray adhesive and small staples. 
 It doesnt really go here in the hallway. I stuck it here to take pics and because I really dont have anywhere else to put it.   I guess I will have to sell it.  :{                         Just an excuse for me to find another one to do!!!!!!!

Ok. So Ive had this table for years. I was trying to sell it. No one wanted it. Big surprise. So, I thought, why not paint it?? Duh. I love the turquoise-teal colors so I thought I would give it a go. 
I mixed a few colors and made my chalk paint. Used my handy-dandy new stencil with some Ben Moore silvery-gray paint. Sanded and waxed. Fineto.

So here is the new dresser Ive been commissioned to work on.  The customer bought it off of CL. Isnt it just gorgeous?  lol... Well, at least it has good bones. The customer wanted a brown top and aqua everything else. I didnt think the wood on top would be any good, because it was a veneer. 
Whats with the two blue drawers??? The previous owners were trying a new color and decided, "Oh never mind"???
Hmmmmm...I wonder just what is underneath all those years of funk??? 
I hate stripping furniture more than going to a yearly GYN exam.  But, I just had to know. 
So I broke out my soy stripper that I totally forgot I had hidden away in the cabinet. Its been there for 5 years. Never have used it. Its completely natural and has no odor. Clean-up is with water. 
So I thought I would try it on the corner,,,just for a peek.
Whaaa???? What is this pretty dark woodness showing 
through?? Could it be? 
Here is the soy stripper starting to work. 
Heres a jug of the stripper. And this baby is no cheap date!
But it works like a charm!!! 
 Look at this stuff come right off. I dont know what the yellow stuff was on top (paint? glaze?) but there was a tough white layer underneath it. Some spots took two treatments. WHAT on Gods green Earth was I thinking!!!??? Look at all those curves and stuff. Do you have any idea how long thistook me?? I hate stripping, I hate stripping.......No, I love the results!
                         
   Wow. She cleans up nicely! Only took like, 8 hours! 
 Too bad all of that veneer is on that balsa-y type stuff
that sands away to nothingness. I had to re-stain it to darken it up again.
                          Here is my homemade chalk paint (2:1, paint and plaster of paris) that 
                                I rolled on (two coats) to give it a nice smooth look. I used Martha Stewart "Spud" and cut it with some white.
                 It turned out great. I sanded with 320 and then took a
                    100 grit to get the edges and work on the middle.
       
                        I forgot to take a before shot. But here is the top after distressing and glazing.                      I mixed some walnut stain in with some Martha Stewart Faux Glaze that was on                      clearance for $2.00.
I just love the way the coloring came out on this top. I used a dark wax
 and gave it two coats. Dont look at the drawer yet. The hardware was still in original form, and the paint hadnt been glazed or waxed yet. 
                     
Ok..This is in the garage and the flash really washed out the color. Oh, and there is no finishing coat of wax on this body yet. I wanted to wait and get the ok from the customer first before I sealed her up.   I will get some better shots in the right lighting. But, What do you think????? This is what the customer wanted. Its very French/Shabby-ish. 
The color is much prettier in person. Just wait a bit. 
 
   Ok. Here it is in the light of day. These blues are hard to get a true depiction while outside.                   
The drawers are nice and sturdy but again, its that balsa-y stuff. If you sand too much, it melts away. arrrrrggg! 
 I mean, Look at the diff between these two. They were taken about  2 hours apart. The one below was after the sun had gone down a bit.  It shows a lot cooler.

times of the day. This color is actually the closest to what it looks like.
